This video will guide new users through the process of signing up for the app. It will provide a basic overview of important account features and settings, showing users how to customize their profiles to meet their needs. The tutorial will also cover how to create connections with friends who are also using the app, and how to send messages to these connections.
Welcome to the Hobb App. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s set up an account. Open a browser and navigate to www.hobb.app.
On the top left you’ll find the app icon. If you ever get lost in the app, simply click it to navigate back to the Home page; if you are logged into your account, this will direct you back to the Dashboard. Further to the right you’ll see two navigation categories – The App and The Articles.
The App is where you’ll find general information pages about the Hobb App. These videos are found on the Guide page. The Articles is where you’ll find archives of blog articles. This is where you’ll find affiliate links to online retailers. We are completely funded via these links, so if are planning to purchase gear, please consider using them. It’s no extra cost to you, but the app will earn a small commission.
Click the sign-up button on the center of the page. You can sign up via your Google or Facebook account, or else by entering your email and creating a password. If you choose to use Google or Facebook, your profile photo will come from these platforms. Otherwise, it will come from Gravatar, a forever free service that hosts user profile photos and avatars. You will be sent an email to verify yourself. After doing so, please logout then you’ll need to log back into the app to access your account.
At the top you’ll notice two additional navigation categories – Your Trips and Your Gear. Your Trips provides navigation to pages related to the trip planner, and Your Gear provides navigation to pages related to the gear manager. Below these categories, you’ll find a new row of navigation icons; on large screens, these icons will be displayed as a left-hand sidebar.
Scrolling down the center of the page, you’ll see a welcome message. Feel free to dismiss the message, as you can find it later on the Settings page. Click on the settings icon to navigate to the Settings page. On the left-hand column, you’ll find buttons that allow you to enter user contact, emergency contact, and medical information. Entering information is optional, but I recommend it as it is used to auto-populate form fields and trip itinerary printouts.
The Hobb App System Messages are found on the bottom of the right-hand column. You can toggle the title to display the message. By default, your profile is not searchable. This is not a social media app to connect with strangers, so only temporarily allow your profile to be searchable when you know a friend is trying to connect with you; otherwise, please keep your profile unsearchable. Only request or accept connections from people you know if real life whom you trust to share a tent or campsite with in a remote setting.
Next, let’s search for a friend. To navigate to the Friends page, click the last icon in the icon row. To invite friends to join the Hopp App, click the right button. Enter their emails in the input box, and click SEND. Your friends will be sent the email below inviting them to use the app. To search for friends who are already using the Hobb App, click the left button. You can search for user by name or by username, which is the first part of their email address. In the search results, select your friend and then request a connection. Once your request has been accepted, you’ll find your friend will be displayed on the Friends page.
Next, let’s send a private message. You can click on the SEND A MESSAGE button, or else navigate to the Messaging page via the messaging icon. To send a private message, click NEW MESSAGE. Select a recipient from your friends list, then type your message, and click SEND.
The next tutorial will guide you though the process of using the gear manager.
